NPFL Update: Enyimba FC’s 3-0 Lead Cut Short Due to Technical Fault, Match Rescheduled

Enyimba FC’s match against Katsina United in Matchday 5 of the NPFL, played at the Enyimba International Stadium, was halted after 72 minutes due to a technical issue with the floodlights.

The match, which saw Enyimba dominating in the first half with a 3-0 lead courtesy of goals from Ekene Awazie, Ifeanyi Ihemekwele, and Kalu Nweke, was suspended when the stadium lights failed.

In a statement released on Enyimba FC’s social media, it was announced that both teams, along with match officials, agreed to resume the game tomorrow, Monday, October 7, 2024, at 8:00 am.

The club expressed regret for the disruption and thanked fans for their understanding, promising to work on rectifying the issue to ensure a smooth conclusion to the game.

“Due to unforeseen technical difficulties, today’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match between Enyimba FC and Katsina United at the Enyimba International Stadium will now resume tomorrow at 8.00 am as agreed by both teams and the match officials.

We regret the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. We are working to ensure a smooth continuation of the match.”

Despite the power outage, fans created a remarkable scene, using their phone lights to temporarily illuminate the stadium, demonstrating their unwavering support during the interruption.

However, with safety concerns in mind, the decision to suspend the match was made, and both teams will look forward to completing the remaining minutes under more stable conditions.

The match will pick up from the 72nd minute, with Enyimba hoping to maintain their lead and continue their strong run in the season.
