The Ikon Allah Boys recorded another home win to make it four straight wins on the bounce on home turf as goals from Mohammed Hussaini and Bashir Usman ensured a comfortable victory for Majin Mohammed’s side despite a late rally by the visitors.
The hosts and the visitors set out to attack from the blast of the whistle as both teams tried to hold possession of the ball and initiate attack during the opening stages of the game.
It was 13th minute on the clock and a ball was floated towards Clinton Jephta who attempted to get the ball but was tripped by Doma United defender and the referee wasted no time to award a free kick just meters away from the area, Mohammed Hussaini went behind the ball and bent it spectacularly into the net beyond Kingdom Osayi who stood in disbelieve.
The goal was Hussaini’s 3rd of the season and he scored a similar free kick in the last home game against Gombe United.
Despite taking the lead Tornadoes continued to attack in search of more goals and the pressure paid off when Abba Khalid received a pass and raced with the ball into the opposition’s end, he dazzled in the box beating the defenders before releasing a sumptuous pass to Bashir Usman who calmly flashed the ball into the net in the 25th minute on the clock to double the lead.
It was a back to back home goals for Bashir Usman having scored against Gombe United in the last home match and it took his tally for the season to 8 goals.
After going two goals down the visitors raised the tempo of their game with series of attacks and incursions into the hosts rear all in an effort to reduce the tally until the referee sounded his whistle to signalled half time break.
Second half resumed and produced no goals despite threatening attempts by the visitors all thanks to Joshua Enaholo who stood firm behind the sticks to earn another clean sheet.
The win means Niger Tornadoes maintains their 10th position on the log.
Post Match Reaction:
Majin Mohammed attributed the win to hard work:
“We put up a very good fight to earn this victory knowing fully well that after today’s game we are embarking on a double away trips and it’s not going to be easy playing against Remo Stars and Plateau United, so we needed this win and that’s exactly what the boys did.
*On The Next Away Games:*
Yes, football is full of surprises, and even the games we won away from home, we prepared for it and one good thing is going well with Niger Tornadoes now is that, because we are playing our home matches away from, anywhere we go to, as far as it is in Nigeria we believe its our home, so we always go with the mindset to attack, because to win a match you must score and that is what is keeping the team moving.”
