Nasarawa United FC failed to capitalize on the woes of struggling FC Ifeanyi Ubah as they lost 2-1 to their host in the NPFL matchday 32 clash at the Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium, Nnewi, Anambra State, on Sunday afternoon.
The host took the lead in the 27th minute through Nonso Nzediegwu off Evans Ogboda’s cross-in.
Six minutes later, United would draw level in a spectacular fashion with Chigozie Obasi thundering a forty-yard freekick into the back of the net, his 4th goal of the season as a defender.
Both teams went into the break with score at 1-1 apiece.
The Solid Miners, however, were reduced to ten men, seventeen minutes into the second half after Sadiq Abdulrazaq received his second yellow card for a foul on a host player.
Uzochukwu Ifejiofor came off the bench to score the winner for the home side in the 70th minute following some dazzling runs around the United area, squaring the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper, Mohammed Galadima.
Despite the defeat, Nasarawa United remain in the second position on the league table with 55 points, five points behind Akwa United who pipped Enyimba 1-0 in Uyo in the other fixture as fellow title contenders, Kano Pillars, lost 0-1 to Sunshine Stars in Akure.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah remain rooted in the bottom three, with 34 points from the same number of games played.
United will next play Plateau United on Wednesday, 14th July in Lokoja, Kogi State, in the Aiteo Federation Cup Round of sixteen clash, before returning home to take on visiting MFM FC of Lagos on Sunday, 18th July, 2021, in a league match.
