The league will commence on Saturday, August 31, 2024, as confirmed by NPFL Chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye on the league’s social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook.

Sunday marked the conclusion of the 2023–24 season, with Enugu Rangers securing their ninth title with a five-point margin and will look to defend their title when the new season starts.

The season didn’t go down without controversial decisions by referees, some of which led to the suspension and expulsion of some of the officials.

Elegbeleye declared that the NPFL board is prepared to raise the standard of officiating in the Nigerian premier league.

No league in the world is flawless, and we are still in the early phases of development. According to NPFL match analyst Sebastine Emmanuel, “we are going to introduce some gadgets for referees by next season,” Elegbeleye stated.

The chairman also outlined their intentions to strengthen the NPFL’s youth program.

“We are also going to improve on the youth programme because we made sure all the clubs registered all their feeders’ teams as part of the club licensing last season.

“I am happy a lot of them were in the last Nigeria’s U-17 team and we hope the youth system will become a pool of talents for the national teams and the topflight clubs next season.”
