The stage may be set for Rivers United to lift this year’s Nigerian Professional Football League so early in this year’s campaign.
The Port Harcourt base team will be filing out this weekend having the expectation to be crowned Champions of the 2021/2022 NPFL.
Week 34 matches of the NPFL will hold in all designated centres this weekend. Indeed, Rivers United may be declared champions this weekend if they defeat Rangers International of Enugu.
Although being in a position to win the league in week 34, Rivers United will have to pray that second place Plateau United will fail to beat visiting Gombe United.
Both teams occupy the first and second on the log but have a 10 point difference between them. Rivers United’s victory will see them having a 13 point advantage, that is if Plateau United fail to grab a point.
Saturday and Sunday will have other NPFL matches across Nigeria as the battle for top and bottom continues.
Abia Warriors will play host to Kano Pillars, local rivals Dakkada FC and Akwa United will do battle, league leaders Rivers United will face Rangers International of Enugu as they hope to be winners.
It’s going to be a battle royale between Heartland and Katsina United, Sunshine Stars will face Kwara United, Bottom of the table MFM will fight hard when they welcome Enyimba, Niger Tornadoes will fight against relegation when they face Nasarawa United. Lobo Stars will trade tackles with Remo while Shooting Stars will lock horns with Wikki Tourists.
