With only one game left to end the 2018/19 Nigeria Professional Football League (NFPL) season, Kano Pillars sealed their place in the Super Six playoff following a 3-0 victory over Delta Force on Monday.
A 19th minute Rabiu Ali penalty opened the scoring, before two second half goals from Auwalu Ali Malam and Yusuf Maigoro completed the drubbing.
The victory keeps Pillars four points clear of third-placed Ifeanyi Ubah in Group B.
Elsewhere, Chibuike Ezeh scored the lone goal as FC Ifeanyiubah bagged a crucial away win over El-Kanemi Warriors to give themselves an edge over the hosts in the battle for the Super Six playoffs.
A point in their last game against Akwa United will see them join both Kano Pillars and Akwa United in the Super Six.
In Uyo, group leaders Akwa United secured a 2-2 draw through Ocheme Edoh’s 89th minute headed goal to deny Abia Warriors all three points.
The relegation battle heats up in the group as Gombe United, Plateau United and Go Round FC all picked points in their matches. Gombe United beat Heartland 1-0, Plateau United grabbed a 2-0 win over already relegated Yobe Desert Stars, while Go Round FC played a 2-2 draw with Nassarawa United.
In group A, Table toppers Enugu Rangers defeated Rivers United courtesy an 85th minute strike by Chidera Ezeh.
Rangers have already qualified for the Super Six, however, it is yet to be confirmed which of Lobi Stars, Enyimba or MFM FC will miss out on qualification on the last day of the season.
In other games, all the relegation threatened sides in Group A failed to pick up points except Kwara United.
Niger Tornadoes lost to Enyimba 2-0, Sunshine Stars lost away to Bendel Insurance by a lone goal, while goals from Uche Onwuansanya and Funsho Alamoyo were enough to give Kwara United a 2-1 win over relegated Remo Stars. Victor Mbaoma’s 90th minute strike proved to be a consolation in the game
