Head Coach of Akwa United Kennedy Boboye says his team’s 1-0 victory over Plateau United was a result of a perfect tactical approach to the game by his players.
Charles Atshimene’s 55th-minute thumping strike earned Akwa United a vital victory over Plateau United on Match-day 11 of the 2020/2021 NPFL season at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday.
The striker calmly controlled Ndifreke Effiong’s low cross and smashed it home from inside the box in the 55th minute to help ten-man Promise Keepers record their fifth win of the season.
Coach Boboye commended his player’s positive attitude throughout the game and said that his team is still a work in progress.
” We are grateful to God for this victory. It was a tough game and we fought hard to earn this victory against a very good team. I want to say that it wasn’t easy but I wish to sincerely congratulate my players for their courage and determination throughout the game.
” We didn’t play our pattern in the first half and at halftime, we talked to the boys and they came out, change their play, and scored the crucial goal. My boys showed lots of character despite the dismissal of Etboy Akpan. We were able to control the game despite being one man down for over thirty minutes.
“We are not there yet, we will continue to put in more efforts until we get to where we want to be. We have played 11 matches and we still have 27 games to go. Our aim is to keep fighting for more points in all our matches, “Coach Boboye hinted.
With the win, the Promise Keepers now have 18 points from 11 games. Coach Boboye will lead his team to Aba for a date with Enyimba International on Matchday 12 scheduled for Wednesday 24 February 2021.
