Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) chief operating officer, Mallam Salihu Abubakar has hinted that the issue of how many teams to gain promotion from the lower cadre Nigeria National League (NNL) will soon be resolved.
Although he insists no one in the NPFL is aware of a proposal by NNL for eight teams to be to be promoted to the top-flight division, Abubakar told sports247.ng that they will soon get to the root of the issue.
Abubakar insisted that they have no inclination that the second tier has any plan to promote eight teams, because they had already agreed on four coming up from the NNL.
“The original plan was to begin the new season with 24 teams hence the draw in Asaba a week ago.
“However, we believe that the matter will be settled as soon as possible,” Abubakar assured.
