After the not too impressive result against Gombe United on Boxing Day in Lafia, Nasarawa United FC have shifted focus to their next festive period’s fixture away to Remo Stars.
The coach Bala Nikyu-tutored side had a feel of their next opponents’ ground at Ikenne Remo, Ogun State, South-West Nigeria on Tuesday evening and looked poised to make amends in their midweek clash against a side they last met five years ago.
The Solid Miners have only garnered two points from two games, including painfully dropping points in their last game at their backyard, and they will require to give more than they did away to Heartland to secure their first victory of the new campaign at the expense of the Sky-blue Stars who are temporarily topping the league table with six points.
It’s going to be difficult terrain for the travellers, but Coach Bala Nikyu is not new to picking points away from home against in-form teams.
Last season, the United gaffer led his wards to three wins and three draws on the road, most notably against Enyimba in Aba.
Wednesday’s clash provides an ambience of opportunity for the slow-speaking Kaduna State-born tactician to bring his wealth of experience to bear against his dugout counterpart, Gbenga Ogunbote.
The last time both teams met in 2017, Remo Stars won 1-0 at home but suffered a 2-0 defeat in the reversed fixture in Lafia.
With the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League still in its infancy, the Solid Miners still have a barrage of games to make real their promise to surpass the achievements of the last term.
Tomorrow’s meeting comes up at four o’clock in the afternoon at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne Remo.
