A game that could be tagged a North-central derby, Nasarawa United emerged 1-0 winners over Lobi Stars at the Lafia Stadium courtesy of a 49th-minute goal by Ikenna Ofor which explains the players’ happiness while speaking to Sports247.
“I feel very happy because it’s not easy. Scoring in a derby match and winning the man of the match award, I’m really happy and grateful to score the only goal of the game,” Ikenna said.
The goal which was the players’ second goal of the season came at such an important time but the player is focused on moving on to the next game where the Solid Miners face crumbling Sunshine Stars tutored by the Oracle, Gbenga Ogunbote.
“Every match has its specific plans. We’ve gotten the win here at home, now we’ll prepare for the next game which is Sunshine Stars (away) and we’ll try our best to come out with something,” goalscorer Ikenna Ofor said.
Explaining the reason for his joyous celebration, Ikenna said “I felt very happy because, in training, the coach had been correcting me, telling me about that kind of runs so immediately I saw the ball with Silas, I decided to make the move and the ball came to me, then I finished. So perfecting the corrections today made me happy and I believe the coach was happy too.”
The goalscorer hopes to keep this form going while also explaining how sad he was as to losing a colleague in this same fixture last season.
