The NPFL season continued to produce interesting and ventilating football actions as Match week 8 fixtures were played on Wednesday across various centers, as the campaign continued its mouth-watering football excitements.
There were big wins for the Eastern-based club sides, with Enugu Rangers and Abia Warriors winning emphatically at home, while the likes of Akwa United and Enyimba both picked up maximum points away from home.
In Aba, Abia Warriors defeated Sunshine Stars 4-1. Fatai Abdullahi (16th minute), Emmanuel Ugwuka (21st minute) and Bello Lukman (66th and 78th minutes) all scored for Imama’s side, while Sadeeq Yusuf (62nd) scored Sunshine’s only goal in the match.
Akwa United defeated the bottom-placed side, Adamawa United 1-0 away from home, with Ufom Udoh scoring the only goal of the game in the 58th minute, as the League’s bottom side continued their struggle in the campaign.
At the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu Rangers thrashed Dakkada Fc 3-0, with Israel Abia (23rd minute) and Christian Nnaji (49th and 90th minutes) both scoring the goals for the Flying Antelopes, as Salisu Yusuf’s team moved up to fifth in the table.
In Kano, at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Rabiu Abbas (12th minute) and Ndasi Denis Kadiang (17th minute) both scored for Kano Pillars, as they defeated Jigawa Golden Stars 2-0 to move up to 4th place in the league standings.
In Illorin, Kwara United defeated Lobi Stars 2-1, with Christopher Nwanze (59th minute) and Stephen Jude (76th minute) scoring both goals for Kwara United, while Samuel Tiza (80th minute) scored a consolation goal for the Makurdi based club side.
In Lafia, Enyimba International picked up all maximum points on the road, as they defeated their hosts Nasarawa United 2-1.
Abubakar Abdullahi scored an own goal in the 16th minute to give Enyimba the lead. The Lead didn’t last long, as Chinedu Ohanachom restored parity in the match four minutes later, scoring in the 20th minute for Nasarawa United, before Cyril Olisemah restored the People’s Elephant’s lead in the encounter, when he scored in the 32nd minute, which remained that way till the end of the match, to ensure that Enyimba go top of the League table.
In Warri, Warri Wolves defeated Plateau United 1-0, with Efe Yarhere scoring the only goal of the game for the home side.
In Bauchi, Wikki Tourist defeated MFM Fc 2-0. Promise Damala and Chinedu Udeagha both scored in the 30th and 65th minutes respectively, to hand the home side the victory against the Odukoya boys.
On Thursday, Heartland Fc and Ifeanyi Ubah played out a fascinating 1-1 draw in Owerri. Adachi scored for Heartland Fc in the 31st minute, from the penalty spot, before Igboeri equalized for Ifeanyi Ubah in the 86th minute of the encounter, to ensure the share of the spoils for both sides.
In Katsina, Rivers United failed to return to the summit of the League, as they were defeated 2-1 by Katsina United. Faisal and Massally both scored for the Home side in the 5th and 19th minutes respectively, before Ohawuma scored a consolation goal for Stanley Eguma’s side in the 83rd minute of the game, which wasn’t enough, as Rivers United dropped to the second position in the log, behind current league leaders, Enyimba Fc.
