Kano Pillars today at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano State defeated Rivers United 1-0 in Match Week 6 of the 2020/2021 NPFL season.
Nyima scored the only goal of the match for the Northern based clubside in the 19th minute of the encounter to ensure the second Loss of the Campaign for Stanley Eguma’s side.
The Match started off with fascinating and mouth watering football actions, as both teams moved on attacks to get the first goal of the game. The match continued with end to end entertainment, as both sides looked to break the deadlock, but it was the home side who drew first blood in the match, as Nyima scored in the 19th minute, which turned out to be the winning goal of the match.
In the Second Half, Rabiu Ali was shown his marching orders by the referee, after receiving his second yellow card for a bookable offense in the game. The Veteran Midfielder had earlier been booked in the first half (25th minute) for a poor challenge on a Rivers United player.
Following the one Man advantage, Rivers United mounted numerous amount of Pressure on Kano Pillars but could not break down the defense line of the Former NPFL Champions.
There were also some crucial saves and interceptions made by the Kano Pillars Goalkeeper to keep the visitors at bay, which proved so vital in the match, as the Northern based club side held on for a massive win, to move up to 5th position on the table.
The Win moves Kano Pillars to 5th position on the standings, amassing 11 points from 6 games played so far, while Rivers United are now second with 12 points from 6 games played so far and two (2) points behind current league Leaders Nasarawa United who are on 14 points, after match week 6.
