Kwara United will on Sunday face Sunshine Stars in Ilorin in NPFL matchday 29 clashes with the hope of ending their 9-year home winless run against the Akure-based team.
Having suffered a painful 2-0 defeat against Lobi Stars in their last game in which two goals were disallowed, Kwara fans are expecting the Harmony Boys to go for redemption with the battle against Sunshine Stars.
However, Sunshine Stars have been a Goliath in Ilorin for the past nine years with their last defeat at the Kwara state stadium against Kwara United on May 23, 2012.
Abdullahi Biffo and his wards however have the chance of ending Sunshine Stars’ happiness in Ilorin this Sunday having won 2-1 in the first fixture in Akure.
Sunshine Stars have also been a bad traveler this season as they have only picked five points out of a possible 42 this term in the NPFL.
Both teams have played 18 matches in the topflight with Kwara United having 5 wins while Sunshine Stars have 8 victories with the remaining 5 fixtures ending in draws.
The last time Sunshine Stars visited Ilorin was on January 19, 2020, and they were lucky to leave with a point against Kwara United.
Kwara United goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba while speaking with the club’s Media stated emphatically that he and his teammates are ready to extinguish the Stars on Sunday.
“We are ready for this game and what is expected from us against Sunshine Stars is nothing other than the 3 points which we shall get,” Aiyenugba explained.
Although Kwara United are currently occupying the sixth position on the NPFL table, while Sunshine Stars occupy 18th, a win for Biffo and his soldiers will take them back to the top four.
