Bendel Insurance fc had a taste of defeat for the first time since return to the Nigeria Professional footballer league, losing 0-1 to Wikki Tourists of Bauchi.
Suleiman Mohammed’s 55 minute goal was the only factor that separated the two sides as both teams played good football at the Pantami stadium in Gombe.
The Wikki striker latched on a loose back pass header by insurance defender,Daniel Johnson and calmly pushed it into the left corner of the net.
It was one mistake too many for the Benin arsenal who later took the game to their hosts but was too late for them to salvage the situation.
Insurance had missed two scoring opportunities as Michael Enaruna first half volley hit the bar with Junior Osaghae also missing a through pass.
The Insurers had three points before the game after playing 1-1 draw with Remo Stars and goalless draws with Kwara utd and Niger Tornadoes. And it has been a tight game schedules for the Benin arsenal who had to travel for several hours on the road from Benin to Niger state and Gombe between Friday and Monday to honour Tornadoes and Wikki games respectively.
Insurance have Lobi Stars and Katsina utd to contend with next as they continue their search for first win in the new NPFL season.
Speaking after the game, the chief coach of Insurance Baldwin Bazuaye said it was a good game despite the loss ,maintaning that his team will definitely have their day and take advantage of it. He added that the coaching crew will continue to work on their boys to make them fine players.
” All games are not the same. Today. Our boys made just that mistake that cost us a point, but we hope they will learn from it. They are the same boys we brought together to prosecute NNL campaign and we believe in developing them.” Bazuaye explained.
