Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Heartland of Owerri are currently in huge debt due to unpaid allowance of N130 million approved by the Imo State government at the start of the season, Sports247 report.
The said amount is an approval from the Imo state Governor, Rochas Okorocha for the current 2018/2019 season, but it’s yet to be paid to the management.
“Yes, we are engrossed in huge debts, I’m being inundated with demands for the settlement of debts we owe to clubs as regards players recruitment.
“This is because balance of the money approved for us this season has not been released to us.”
He added: “Yes, N130m, that’s the outstanding balance of amount we are expecting from the government for this season. But it has not been made available.
“But we had to go ahead with the season. I had to borrow to keep things moving, hoping the balance of the money would be released.”
The President, who is known as “Digital Chairman” also lamented bitterly on the possible consequences of the unreleased fund.
“That’s where the problem is. With the way things are going, how will I settle our debts?,” he moaned.
After a good start to the season, Heartland who face FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Wednesday find themselves battling to survive the drop. They currently occupy the eight position, with 25 points.
