There is going rise of tension among Heartland Football Club players, members of staff and management over the non- payment of salaries for five months having not been paid since February.
They have now extended the plea of help and intervention to Governor Hope Uzodinma to come to their aid by approving and releasing funds for payment.
This solidarity for payment is not the first of its kind with the retired players of the Spartans Football Club of Owerri (now known as Heartland FC) who are now in their early 60s and 70s yearning for the same cause having lost some owed members to hardship.
“We are suffering. Staying five months without a salary is terrible. We are urging the governor to approve and release funds for our salaries. We are pleading,” an anonymous victim pleaded.
The Imo State Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr. Pat Ekeji, pleaded with the players and officials for patience, explaining that the governor has a comprehensive package for the sports sub-sector, which he would unfold soon.
It will be notably recalled that Recently, the Imo pensioners took to the streets to protest the non-payment of their gratuities. This, they said, was aimed at drawing the attention of the government to their plight.
