NPFL: Finidi Gives Updates On Former Super Eagles, Ideye Joining Rivers United

Rivers United coach Finidi George has dropped an update on the possibility of former Super Eagles star, Brown Ideye joining Rivers United, Sports247 report.

Brown Ideye was seen at Rivers United training ground last week, going through the paces and drills with the players which fuels speculations that he might join the team as soon as possible.

In his post match interview after Rivers United defeated Shooting Stars by 2-0 on Matchday seven of the 2024/2025 NPFL , Finidi George confirmed that there is every likelihood Brown Ideye will return to Rivers United soonest and he is ready to welcome him if he has the same hunger as shown by Ahmed Musa.

“There’s every likelihood that he would join us. He wants to give back. He has that hunger we see in Ahmed Musa and if he’s willing to do that, we welcome him” said Finidi George when he was answering questions on the possibility of Brown coming to join Rivers United.

Ideye, 36, began his career with Bayelsa United before moving to Ocean Boys. He was a member of the Ocean Boys team that won the Nigerian Premier League before moving to Europe in 2008.

He represented Nigeria at the 2007 edition of the FIFA U20 World Cup where the Ladan Bosso led team got eliminated in the Quarter Finals by Chile after extra time, losing 4-0.

The attacker won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations as the Super Eagles defeated Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final hosted by South Africa.

If the former Super Eagles attacker is able to join Rivers United, that will make it the third prominent Super Eagles who ply their trade in the league this season as Ahmed Musa and Abdullahi Sheu are with Kano Pillars FC.

Ahmed Musa is having a great season with Kano Pillars so far, after rejoining the team four weeks ago, unleashing his experience and skills on oppositions.

The addition of Brown Ideye to Rivers United FC and the league, will surely add to the little success so far as the league will enjoy greater outlook, coverage and acceptance.

Meanwhile, Rivers United FC will face Niger Tornadoes on Monday, one of the Matchday 8 fixtures of the NPFL in Minna. The team will be looking forward to extend their unbeaten run to life in the 2024/2025 NPFL, stretching to 7 matches

Rivers United are second on the NPFL table with 17 points from seven matches behind Remo Stars who have 18 points from eight matches.
