The Ilorin-based club’s victory in the game was overshadowed by the NPFL’s charges of providing false information, leading to a fixture adjustment that disrupted the scheduled television broadcast.

The NPFL stated that Kwara United had misrepresented the situation by claiming that the state government had planned an event at the Ilorin Township Stadium on the original match day, resulting in the fixture being moved to a later date. However, it was discovered that there was no such activity planned by the state government, and the stadium hosted a lower league fixture instead.

In a two-count summary jurisdiction, Kwara United was found guilty of breaching Rule C1.1 and B6.23, resulting in a total fine of N6 million. The club faces a N1 million fine for misconduct and a N5 million fine for the disruption of the live broadcast.

The NPFL has given Kwara United 48 hours to either accept the decision or contest it before a disciplinary panel. Failure to contest the decision would require the club to pay the fine within seven working days.

The incident underscores the NPFL’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the league and ensuring fair competition, emphasizing the importance of adhering to rules and regulations to avoid penalties and disruptions.
