A Chinonso Udeh’s trademark free kick in the 23rd minute was all the Anambra Warriors needed to seal victory at the fortress for the maximum points at stake and by extension the fourth clean sheet in four matches played in the abridged league for the 2018-19 season.
It is not doubt the best start for the Anambra Warriors to a league season since the club came into existence in 2015. The technical crew kept faith with the starting eleven that filed out against Go Round FC last Sunday as they sought to extend the record of three clean sheets and fourth game without a defeat in the four-week old league season.
The first twenty minutes of the half was lacking in cutting edge performance from both sides until the 23rd minute when Udeh Chinonso was harked down just outside the box by Daniel Uduak, Udeh rose to the occasion as his beautiful curler into the upper left corner of the post eluded substitute goalkeeper Paul Godwin for what would eventually be the match winner. Solomon Chidi on the 40th minute mark forced a save from FCIU Goalkeeper Anozie Chinedu who was largely untested in the game.
In the second half, Goalkeeper Paul Godwin in the 69th minute denied the Warriors what would have been the second goal of the game from a Samson Junior’s freekick after Eze Chibuike was fouled just outside the box.
On the 75th minute, Skipper Chijioke Alaekwe should have finished off a trademark pass into the box from an overlapping Promise James, the Anambra Warriors again where found wanting in the 80th minute in a three-on-one situation from a swift counter attacking move as Nnaji Christian’s decisive pass into the box eluded Alaekwe Chijioke and Eze Chibuike who were ready to pounce on the chance. The Anambra Warriors however kept their composure to seal the win.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah will face off with new boys Kada City FC in Kaduna come next Sunday in match day five of the abridged league season.
