Technical adviser of FC Ifeanyi Ubah Mohammed Huseini says he is confident the team can compete for the league title in the ongoing 2018/2019 abridged Nigeria Professional Football League after the team’s bright start to the season.
With five wins, three draws and a loss that came at home at the hands of Abia Warriors Huseini believes that the next couple of games will be difficult but the team will remain resolute in order to achieve their ultimate aim of the season which is to make the Super Six, and also book a continental football ticket.
He said: “The rest of the matches we are playing will be against very good sides when you talk about Kano Pillars you can attest to their quality and goal-scoring abilities but at the same time if you can look at our team it’s a youthful team that has the determination to play and is hardworking.
We the technical crew members and the players believe we have to fight for everything and I want to inform everyone that FC Ifeanyi Ubah will surprise everyone at the end of the season.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah so far this season has only been able to score eight goals in nine matches conceding three times but Huseini insists that all that matter is the three points and not the number of goals scored in a game; “As regards goal scoring, we go with what the entire team is looking for. All we are looking for is the maximum three points and it doesn’t matter if we only score one goal per match till the end of the season if we can get our points that is the most important thing.”
Despite their inability to score a lot of goals, the team has been able to keep the best defensive record in group B of the abridged league. “You can also go back to the records, we have conceded fewer goals in our group. Just three and today we have 18 points in our group and also topping the table. We are not a high scoring side and also we don’t allow others score us.”
FC Ifeanyi Ubah has only recorded scoring two goals in a match once this season in the home win against Gombe United.
