Chukwuemeka’s question centered around the often-discussed “must-win at home” syndrome in the NPFL and sought insights into the league’s efforts to address this phenomenon.

Chairman Elegbeleye, in response, challenged the premise of the question, asserting its inaccuracy. He pointed to the previous season, an abridged league divided into Group A and Group B, where a total of 25 away wins and 56 away draws were recorded. Elegbeleye highlighted that this data contradicts the perception of a one-sided “must-win at home” trend.

“This season, with a full league format, we’re already witnessing a shift. In just matchday 9, there have been 3 away wins and 23 away draws,” Elegbeleye stated, debunking the notion of a persistent home dominance.

The NPFL chairman’s response not only corrected a popular misconception but also shed light on the league’s evolving nature. The shift from an abridged to a full league format has evidently influenced match outcomes, providing a more balanced and competitive environment.

As the NPFL continues its journey into the current season, Elegbeleye’s data-backed reassurance challenges preconceived notions and emphasizes the league’s commitment to fostering a dynamic and unpredictable football landscape. The evolving statistics stand as a testament to the NPFL’s strides in promoting fairness, competitiveness, and a level playing field for all teams involved.
