The team struggled in their recent matches but managed to clinch a win with Chijioke Mbaoma converting a penalty in added time during the first half.
The victory not only earned Enyimba maximum points but also helped them rise in the league standings. Coach Finidi George remains optimistic despite the setbacks in the African Football League (AFL), where they suffered back-to-back defeats.
In a post-game statement, Finidi George, who won the UEFA Champions League with Ajax in 1995, acknowledged that continental competitions are different from domestic leagues and emphasized that their focus is now on the NPFL.
Regarding their performance in the AFL, he stated, “Continental is continental, that one (AFL) is gone. We competed but it was not enough. So, this is where we belong.”

“The league has kicked off, we just want to see how we can be winning games. If we are not winning, then we shouldn’t lose, especially in away matches, and then we can come back to solidify. I think that is the way forward.”
He emphasized the importance of performing well in the NPFL, especially in home matches. The coach recognized the league’s competitiveness, with other teams like Akwa United, Rivers United, and Bendel Insurance facing their own challenges.
Finidi George concluded by highlighting the team’s commitment to improving and delivering results. He acknowledged that while everyone appreciates fantastic football, sometimes winning games requires a more scrappy approach.
He expressed confidence that the team would work on their performance and strive for more victories as the season progresses.
