The 19-year-old, known for his impressive performances with the Rangers youth team, has secured a three-year contract with the Flying Antelopes, as announced in a press release on Monday.
Igwilo’s rise through the ranks has been marked by his knack for outsmarting defenders and scoring goals, making him a standout talent. His promotion to the senior team comes as Rangers prepare to defend their NPFL title and aim for success in the 2024/2025 CAF Champions League.
“It’s a dream come true for me,” an elated Igwilo expressed. “I’ve always dreamt of wearing the famous Rangers jersey. I am humbled by this decision to hand me a contract and I hope to give my best in every situation to ensure that we succeed as a team.”
Rangers’ General Manager and CEO, Amobi Ezeaku, expressed his confidence in Igwilo’s potential. “He’s a special talent,” Ezeaku commented during the signing ceremony. “The management is happy to have him put pen to paper for us to showcase his talent to the world. He has a lot that will be thrilling to behold when the new season commences.”
This strategic signing comes shortly after Rangers secured their eighth NPFL title, having previously been crowned champions in 1974, 1975, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1984, and 2016 under Coach Imama Amapakabo. Only Enyimba, with nine league titles, surpass Rangers in terms of league success.
With Igwilo joining the ranks, Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu’s squad is gearing up for a formidable season ahead, hoping to add more silverware to their storied legacy.
