Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia shared the spoils with visiting Akwa United from Uyo in a week nine Nigeria Professional Football League encounter which ended 1-1 at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
After initial exchange of forays, versatile defender, Ozor Chinedu gave the home team the lead as he connected a well taken Fatai Abdullahi corner in the 28th minute.
The lead lasted for only five minutes as Mfon Udoh beat Warriors offside trap to net the equaliser when he connected Christopher Lolo’s lofted pass and beat Joshua Enaholo from close range.
Although the Warriors players and bench believed the erstwhile Enyimba captain scored from the offside position, Centre Referee, Olayinka Olajide however disagreed with them but instead thumbed up his second Assistant who agreed with him that it was a legitimate goal.
The Warriors tried as much as they could to score the winner mounting ceaseless pressure on their opponents with the Referee waving aside, penalty appeals twice from the home team.
Coach Henry Makinwa of Abia Warriors and his Akwa United counterpart, Rafael Everton effected the necessary substitutions but there were no more goals as both sides shared the spoils for yet another time in Umuahia.
