Akwa United returned to winning ways by defeating Kwara United in their Nigeria Premier Football League match day 15 of 18 encounters on Monday after two matches without a win.
A loss against Plateau United and a draw against Nasarawa United had seen the Promise Keepers drop five points in their two matches, but they got a 3-1 win against the Harmony Boys to change the narrative.
Three first goals from Taiye Muritala, Cyril Olisema, and Ubong Friday gave the Orange Boys the desired win.
Muritala had scored in the 19th minute with a ferocious strike before Olisema doubled the lead in the 27th minute of the game.
Unfortunately, Olisema was substituted for Effiong Moses in the 41st minute after a challenge led to his injury, but it didn’t stop the home boys from scoring the third through Friday at an additional time in the first half.
After a comfortable lead in the first half, the second half started with the visiting team pulling a goal back.
Samad Kadiri gave the visitors a lifeline four minutes after the restart of the encounter at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
But it was of no effect as it only became a consolation goal after 90 minutes as the score stayed 3-1.
The win takes Akwa United back to second on the league group A standings with 26 points 5 points adrift of leaders, Bendel Insurance.
