Ahead of the highly anticipated 2023/24 Nigeria Professional Premier League season, the league body has communicated in an official press letter to all participating clubs that the September 9 kick-off match is no longer going to take place as the campaign is put on hold.

Shooting Stars against Plateau United was supposed to be the season curtain-raiser match but the game will no longer go on following the latest update.
Prior to this time, GTI had announced a N150 million prize money for the winner but there remains the debacle of a title sponsor which hasn’t been concluded.
In the circulation which read: “The board of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) wishes to inform you that the scheduled kick-off of the 2023/24 season has been put on hold and a new date will be communicated to you. This is due to the sponsorship of the league.”
“Note therefore that there will be no flag-off game this Saturday, September 9 as originally planned.”
“This is for your information and necessary action,” the circulation which was signed by Davidson Owumi, the chief operation officer, ended.

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) released its schedule for matchday one of the upcoming 2023-2024 campaign seasons during the colorful draw held in Abuja last Tuesday.
Football stakeholders led by Gbenga Elegbeleye, Chairman, Nigeria Premier League Board in attendance with plans to have most of the games streamed live, in partnership with Propel Sports Africa/MTN, so that Nigerians at home and abroad can enjoy the league deliberated on.
