Ahead of Nigeria Premier Football League match day 2 clash against Sunshine Stars in Akure, Coach Stanley Eguma has tasked his Rivers United’s players to take every game as a cup final if they must achieve their target this season.
Rivers United began the new campaign on a winning note on Sunday when they beat Lobi Stars 2-1 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium courtesy of strikes from Morris Chukwu and Kenechukwu Agu.
Eguma was delighted with the way in which his team dug deep to earn the victory, but he also knows if his team must retain the league title, they must avoid any complacency.
“You know defending the trophy is more difficult than winning it because every eye is on us (Rivers United). Every team wants to dethrone Rivers United, so we have to approach all our games as if it’s a cup final,” Eguma told RUFC media
Rivers United will look to earn their second win of the season when they take on Sunshine Stars at the Ondo State Sports Complex on Thursday.
