Hosts Niger Tornadoes FC secured a home win to end the first round of the season on a positive note, as David Okoromi’s strike ensured Coach Bala’s side bagged a first win in six NPFL matches and first home win out of four.
The Ikon Allah Boys began the proceedings at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna like a wounded lion seeking for a revenge, in search of a win after recording 3 consecutive home draws.
Early in the half, David Okoromi’s glancing header in the 12th minute after connecting from Abba Khalid’s corner kick, nearly went in but the goalkeeper managed to pull a brilliant save.
Tornadoes in-form striker David Okoromi broke the deadlock when he cleverly connected to Idris Saidu’s free kick to slide the ball home in the 42nd minute in what turned out to be the only goal of the match.
Second half resumed and Tornadoes kept pushing for the second goal and nearly got rewarded when Taofeeq Babatunde was kicked inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty to the hosts, Dakkada FC goalkeeper Badmus Nurudeen pulled a great save to deny David Okoromi from the spot.
Further attempts at goal by both sides were fruitless as the tie ended in favor of the hosts.
The Ikon Allah Boys wrapped up the first round of the season with 3 wins, 3 draws, 3 defeats and occupies the 5th position on the log.
