Samuel Ayanrinde made a glorious NPFL debut for Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan as his first half brace, helped the Oluyole Warriors to a two nil win over Nasarawa United of Lafia.
The matchday six encounter, played at the Lekan Salami Stadium, saw goalkeeper Okechukwu Johnson display superb goalkeeping prowess against the Solid miners.
With Anthony Okachi and Samuel Stone missing out, Ayanrinde, made good use of the opportunity, combining very well with skipper Opeoluwa Olufemi, Malomo Taofeek, Joshua Akpan in the 3SC forward line.
While Kelly Kester, took charge of the midfield together with Cletus Emotan, Alex Aghahowa, Ifeatu Evans, Bala Akintunde and Gali Falke, stood firm at the rear to provide cover for impressive goalkeeper Okechukwu.
Having pressed for an early opener which refused to come, no thanks to the visitors’ frustrating defensive play and poor finishing, the unrelenting homers finally had their nose in the front in the 39th minute, through Ayanrinde.
The striker received a pass from Alex Aghahowa, turned to take his markers out of the way, and then fired home from close range, beating a helpless Danlami Unar in goal for the coach Bala Nkiyu tutored Nasarawa United.
Five minutes later, 44 minutes to be precise, Ayanrinde was on song again, heading home a fantastic pull out from skipper Opeoluwa Olufemi, to ensure a 2-0 first half lead for the Oluyole Warriors.
The second was however a different ball game as the Solid miners, who had sat back all through the first half, came out of their shell but their efforts to find the back of the net, proved abortive, thanks to solid defending and goalkeeper Okechukwu’s reflexes.
In order to curtail the visitors and as well get more goal, coach Gbenga Ogunbote threw, in Uko Anitie, Ubong Williams, Abdallah Hussein, Ayo Adejubu and Gbenga Benedict, but the goal margin remained unchanged until referee Austin O from Akwa Ibom signalled for the end of the game after 90 and additional three minutes.
The win takes the Ibadan soccer lords’ point haul to eight from six matches and the team will remain at home next Sunday for a matchday seven cracker against table topping Bendel Insurance of Benin.
