This Wednesday’s encounter between host, Enyimba International of Aba and Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, will be the third clash between coaches Gbenga Ogunbote and Finidi George, within three months.
Both sides go into this matchday eight midweek cracker with their recent meetings at the maiden NPFL/ Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup last December, fresh in memory.
In their first meeting in the tourney, played at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Lagos, both sides battled to a goalless draw, a result that earned them the tickets to the final of the four team pre season showpiece.
In the grand finale, decided at the venue, Shooting Stars came back on two occasions before eventually scoring a late winner to emerge 3-2 winners
Malomo Taofeek, Kelly Kester and Anthony Okachi were the scorers as the Oluyole Warriors emerged the champions of the tournament.
The two tacticians will lead their wards to the battle field, the Enyimba International Stadium this Wednesday, this time in an important league game, with Enyimba hoping to consolidate on last weekend’s away win over Gombe United, while 3SC, will aim to get something good on the road this time.
Last season, Enyimba luckily ran away with a lone goal win in Aba, scoring late in a matchday five tie but the Shooting Stars took their pound of flesh in the reverse fixture, beating the People’s Elephants 2-0, courtesy of Moses Omoduemuke and Emmanuel Lucky s first half goals.
