In what was Doma United’s debut season in the Nigeria Premier Football League, the team’s Technical Adviser, Akinade Onigbinde has showered praise on his players despite being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Sunshines Stars.
Charlse Chibuke connected perfectly to Musa Usman’s freekick in the 39th minutes to head Doma United into the lead before Yusuf Ibrahim scored a late equalizer in the 90th minute, as the Savannah Tigers kicked start their campaign in the NPFL with a draw at home.
The TA put in a strong team consisting of an experienced Maurice Chigozie and Haruna Aliyu (LBC) at the heart of the defense.
Doma United were dominant in the first 30 minutes of the game with Usman Musa’s left footed shot going wide earlier in the game. United created chances which resulted in four attempted shots with three been on target in the first 30 minutes.
Maurice Chigozie picked the first booking of the game after he fouled Temitope Vincent who was racing towards goal while Joshua Akhabue was also booked for a foul on Usman Musa which resulted in a free kick for the Tigers.
United’s dominance was rewarded after Charlse Chibuke heads in Usman Musa’s brilliant free kick from the right side of the pitch to put the home side ahead and send Pantami crowd into jubilation.
Samuel Enifiok, Adamu and Karla replaces Babas Theophilus, Musa Usman and Charlse Chibuke in the 72nd minutes as the game swung into Sunshine’s favour.
With four minutes of added time remaining, Temitope Vincent sent in a long ball into Doma’s 18 yard box as racing Yusuf Ibrahim heads in before Abdullahi Zalli could clear his line, to level the scores.
Reacting after the game was the Technical Adviser Akinade Onigbinde who praised the players for their efforts despite conceding a late equalizer.
Coach Onigbinde said each player gave his best and believe that the next game will be a game to correct whatever was not done right in the first game “Our boys were superb, especially in the first half, they did their best and every one of them did not relent. As you can see, we are all disappointed with the result but we cannot dwell on that as we already have a game ahead and it is against Niger Tornadoes and we are preparing to go and pick our three points there insha Allah. This is a lesson that everyone will go and sit down and think about it”
Charlse Chibuke becomes Doma United’s first goal scorer in the NPFL with United now 7th on the table of group B of the abridge league.
The Gombe based side will travel to Kaduna to face Niger Tornadoes in our second game of the season on Wednesday 18/1/2023.
