Doma United earned its second consecutive draws in two away games against fellow new comers Bayelsa United in a cagey 1-1 draw of the NPFL matchday five encounter at the Samson Siasia Sports Stadium, Yenagoa.
The Savannah Tigers found it tough going forward earlier in the game against a typically enterprising Bayelsa side, and the Tigers may well return to Gombe seeing this as a point gained rather than two dropped.
A super low strike from Samuel Enefiok right before the halftime whistle (45 minutes) put Doma United in front against the run of play, although for all Bayelsa’s threat they didn’t seriously trouble Kingdom before the break.
Bidemi Owoku had a decent chance to put the Savannah Tigers ahead early on but his close range effort was comfortably saved by the goalkeeper.
Immediately after the break, Kingdom was called into action, denying Mizo Robert a leveller, but the respite was temporary as Osoboh Osahon emphatically tapped in and equaliser seven minutes after the break.
With the game continuing to toughen, Akinade made three changes to his team. Hillary came on for Innocent after 62minutes before Samuel Enefiok picked up a knock and was replaced by Success while Babas Theophilus came on for Amos Steven.
Three Doma United players got into the referees book as Bidemi Owoku, Amos Steven and Andrew Majalisa were all cautioned.
Both sides tried in vain to find a winner with no luck, so a game between two teams that gained promotion into the league last season ended in a draw.
Doma United’sTechnical Adviser Akinade Onigbinde reacting to the game said it was disappointing to have conceded an equaliser but praises his team’s performance as well as the officiating.
“We are happy to have gotten a point here, though we wanted all the three points but all the same, we’re glad to have gotten a point. The referee and his assistants were very good and the officiating was excellent. We have said it before, with good officiating, teams will play good football the best teams will always win. Now, we’re going home to prepare for our next game”
The Savannah Tigers are back in action on Sunday 5th February, 2023 when we host Group B leaders Rivers United at the Pantami Stadium.
