Emmanuel Ogwuche’s fifty-fifth minute strike for Doma United was enough to inflict a first defeat of the season on Dakkada in a pulsating NPFL match day three fixture at the Pantami stadium, Gombe, on Sunday.
The bulky forward bundled the ball over the line following a goal mouth melee which ensued from Hilary Ekawu’s long throw-in. Dakkada goalkeeper, Thomas Omokhudu, appeared to have been impeded at least twice in the lead-up to the goal as he made several futile attempts to gather the loose ball but his protestations and those of his colleagues were adamantly waived by referee Ayatu.
After a predominantly pedestrian first period, the game started coming alive early in the second half with Hilary’s long throw-ins causing the visitors all sorts of problems. It would eventually bear tangible dividend with Ogwuche pouncing to earn United all the spoils and drag them into sixth place in the Group B standings.
Dakkada who were missing the services of several key players on the afternoon looked like they sat deep and depended on counter attacks before they were prised open. After going behind, Dakkada injected some vitality into their attack with a triple substitution but their late onslaught was muscularly repelled by Doma United who have now secured their first win of the campaign.
Doma United will be guests to Wikki Tourists, who are without a win in their opening three fixtures, while Dakkada will play hosts to Rivers United when match day four gets underway next Sunday.
