Akwa United head coach, Deji Ayeni is confident with his team’s level of preparation ahead of the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Premier League (NPFl) kick-off.
He made this known following the honest assessment of his team goalless draw against defending champions, Rivers United in Uyo.
“We played series of matches anyway and the game wasn’t bad, its expected the way they played being defending champions,” Ayeni said of the tie.
“If you watch very well, it’s a wit two sided game with the presence of doggedness, resilience, determination and seriousness.”
“So I believe atleast that with this, it’s going to be a positive response for us when the league starts properly next week by the grace of God.”
“We are going to get it right, everything including all the mistakes, we will be able to correct it before the league kick-starts.”
Deji Ayeni responds to the Group A draw conducted on Wednesday;
“There’s chance for everyone that competes in the group, the most important thing is that we will focus and concentrate on our game.”
“We have to take the game as it comes, one by one and we will take positivity from every game that we play. We will spring surprise on a lot of teams.”
The 2022/23 season will be abridged league format with kick-off on January 8th following the draws in Abuja on Wednesday.
The interim management committee (IMC) ably led by Gbenga Elegbeleye revealed that the league winners will be given a N100 million cash prize reward.
