In view of the need to ensure quality officiating in the NPFL, members of the Nigerian Referees Association, NRA involved in this weekend’s matches have been asked to conduct themselves in a manner that will make the referees’ body elated with their performances.
Otunba Tade Azeez, the President of the NRA said that the association has a mandate for the match officials appointed which revolves around fair and firm officiating.
He reminded the referees to report any form of unsporting behaviour meted to them in the course of discharging their duties.
A referee from Lagos, Yomi Olabiyi, who has maintained a clean record since he started taking charge of the game at the centre, will be the decision maker for acts connected with play in the Kano Pillars vs Nassarwa game at Katsina. He will be assisted by two experienced hands from Anambra and Gombe councils; Okoye Cosmas and Abdulahi Usman respectively.
At the Adokyie Amasiemeka Stadium Igwuruta Ali, near Porthacourt, a son of a late FIFA referee, Zulkifil Hong of Adamawa Council with two strong linesmen; Yahaya Ikara and Ibrahim Jibrin as Assistant Referees 1 and 2 respectively, will be officials to watch as Rivers United host Shooting Stars, while another newcomer to the scene, Jahlove Chukwuka who is having his second game at the centre with chairman of Kano State Referees Council, Mallam Nasiru Ibrahim as Assessor shall be pacing round the field with his whistle for the Plateau vs Katsina game.
