Two first half goals by Onoja Joseph, made the difference as Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt beat Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan 2-0, in a matchday17 game, decided at the Adokiye Aimesimaka Stadium.
Playing before a scanty crowd, the two sides had hardly settled down when Onoja got the opener, eight minutes into the encounter.
Stunned by the early goal, the Oluyole Warriors, tried to get back into the match, but Onoja struck again in the 25th minute, to double his side’s lead.
The result did not change until the end of the first half.
The second half saw the Ibadan soccer lords, playing more purposefully, as they took the game to the homers, making the league leaders to look ordinary.
With Chinedu Enuademu and Ayo Adejubu drafted in, the Edith Agoye tutored lads were more adventurous and could have scored on three occassions, but were unlucky.
The Stanley Eguma tutored Rivers United, who were on the defensive for most part of the second half, held on to deny the visitors any goal, thus ending the tie 2-0.
The Ibadan soccer lords, will hope to end their winless streak next Sunday, when they play host to Kano Pillars in a matchday 18 fixture.
