With major renovation works going on at the Lafia City Stadium, Nasarawa United FC have opted for the New Jos International Stadium in Plateau State as temporary shelter for their home matches as the second stanza of the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League Season kicks off this weekend across the country.
Speaking to NUFC Media, Club’s Chairman, Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi(Dan Moren Karu) said the decision to relocate to Jos was imperative owing to its fitting settings and proximity to the aspirations of the Solid Miners.
“Of course, you know a major renovation work is ongoing at our home turf which makes it impracticable for us to hold our home games there for now.
“We weighed series of options and concluded that Jos would serve our interest the most.
“It’s about two and a half hour journey from our base to Jos, and the majority of our fans outside our original home are domiciled in Plateau State, which will, by inference, galvanise a lot of support for us.
“The repair works at our home ground is a temporary one, and we hope to return to our base in no distant time as the contractor has assured of delivering in accordance with stipulations.”
He noted that the Solid Miners would take advantage of all the benefits that accompany the new home ground to win their games and make major statements on the road as the league enters its final phase.
“We have nineteen matches to play this second half of the league season, and these, we will kickstart with two straight home games against Shooting Stars and Heartland FC, respectively, before traveling to Gombe, and so on and so forth.
“We have beefed up our team, and we hope that we will overturn the abysmal status of the first half of the season”, he added.
Nasarawa United, placed 14th on the league table with 22 points, will be on duty this weekend (Sunday) when they host 9th placed Shooting Stars(26 points) of Ibadan in the matchday twenty clash. The first-leg ended 1-0 in favour of the Oluyole Warriors in Ibadan on 20th March.
The Solid Miners would then host 18th placed Heartland FC(20 points) of Owerri during the midweek(10th April) in the matchday 21 tie. The reversed fixture ended 3-3 apiece in Owerri.
