MFM FC of Lagos have become the first club to be officially relegated in the ongoing season of the NPFL.
The Olukoya Boys’ relegation was confirmed after a 2-1 loss to Niger Tornadoes at the Dipo Dina stadium in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state where they were banished to.
The Lagos team did spend 6 years in top flight after only gaining promotion for the first time in their history in 2015, in the 6 years, the team has been a good ambassador of the league and will be remembered for the good times in the top flight.
The Working One
Fidelis Ilechukwu was one of the light MFM brought into the league, from taking them to the continent for a first time to playing entertaining football to becoming a household in the league, MFM FC did bring a star to the league in ‘the working one’ as he is fondly called.
Lagos night football
The promotion of MFM to the NPFL in 2015 brought football life back to Lagos, the newly built Agege township stadium which fans nickname ‘Soccer Temple’ was brought to life and fans enjoyed every bit of it while it lasted, the late night games was something every Lagos football fans wanted to witness and that will not have been possible without MFM FC.
Sikiru and Stephen master class
Two top players MFM FC have produced over the years will be Sikiru Olatunbosun and Stephen Odey, these two players took the league by surprise breaking big clubs back and became a very lethal partnership for the Olukoya Boys.
Sikiru Olatunbosun would later score a World class goal that won him ‘CNN goal of the week award.’ The talent MFM FC have brushed and brought into limelight from the streets have helped lots of youths believe in their dreams.
Sikiru is now a league winner with Rivers United while Stephen Odey is in Europe.
The hearts of the fans are broken, their darling team is being relegated but they summon courage and hope that with their unending support, the club will bounce back and get promoted earlier than expected.
