Chukwudi Nwaodu ‘s 15th minute strike made the difference in the pulsating clash as
Fidelis Ilechukwu’ s return to the Dan Anyiam Stadium saw him return to Jos empty handed as Heartland dismantled Plateau United.
Heartland Skipper Nwaodu settled the nerves of the supporters with a sublime curling effort reminiscent of the goal he scored against Rivers United last season .
The Naze Millionaires laid siege to the United goal in the second period, creating loads of opportunities but lacked the cutting edge in front of goal.
Ndukwu Murphy, Mbaoma,Nwodu and Chibuko came close a couple of times but failed to apply the finish. In the end Nwaodu’s strike proved decisive, securing all three points for the home side.
Reacting, Plateau United gaffer Fidelis Ilechukwu said he was impressed with the quality of play and admitted that Heartland was better on the day. He believes his team failed to express themselves fully at the Dan Anyiam stadium due to the quality of the playing turf.
On his part,Heartland ‘s Technical adviser Erasmus Onuh was happy at the result insisting that “Heartland is a work in progress”.He revealed that the return of the team from Orlu to Owerri has had a positive impact.
Yesterday’s result ensured Heartland moved from the basement of the log to 18th position where they are level on points with 17th placed Katsina United.
Heartland will engage Wikki Tourist next on Match day 25.
