After failing to pick up wins in their last seven game in the Nigerian Professional Football League, MFM FC under new interim boss Olalekan Gabriel picked up a home win against the bottom of the table Adamawa United, and the captain was in an all grateful tone speaking to Sports247 after the game.
“We’re very happy. It’s not easy. We’re 16th on the table and we’re not comfortable but today we picked up the victory and I believe we’ll continue to win going forward,” said the skipper.
Courtesy two first-half goals from Najeem Adeyinka and Oladapo Alabi, MFM FC rescued their poor run of form and finally returned to winning ways amidst the crisis rocking the team internally.
Speaking on how difficult it has been putting on the captain’s armband at such a low time for the club, Elijah explained his gratitude to God and what exactly he has done to make it work. “It’s not that easy, we communicate with each other saying that we can win do it, we can win the game and on the pitch of play we speak to one another and it has worked for us,” were the skipper’s words.
MFM FC next faces Katsina United away from home and Akanni Elijah, captain of the side has promised fans of victory in the game. “By the grace of God, we’ll win the match. I know it’s not easy to play away but I believe we’re going to win the game,” he said.
“I really thank you for your support, for being there for us when we’re down. It wasn’t that easy when we were down but you guys still came out to support us and I’m promising you that very soon we’ll get there,” were the final words of the skipper to the fans and supporters of the club.
