Following his side’s match week eight (8) 1-0 away victory against the League’s bottom team, Adamawa United, Akwa United forward Mfon Udoh has expressed his happiness towards scoring a direct corner kick.
Mfon Udoh scored a direct corner kick to secure a 1-0 win for his team against Adamawa United at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe on Wednesday.
In a chat with Sports247, the former Enyimba international striker expressed his joy towards scoring directly from a corner kick, stating that he had been practicing it during training and was happy it finally paid dividends, after several attempts of not getting it right.
“The way I played that corner kick against Adamawa United was such that I wrapped my leg around the ball and applied a lot of spin on the ball in such a way that it needed the slightest of touches to get into the net, and if nobody touches the ball, it would still get into the net or the goalkeeper would save it”.
“As a striker, I always try to play the ball into the back of the net from different positions in the field of play. I do a lot of those tricky skills in training and in match situations, but I don’t always get it right and that does not mean that I will stop trying out skills”, he added.
Mfon Udoh has scored just twice (2 goals) this season for Akwa United, since rejoining them from American Clubside, Fc Tulsa. The Forward still holds the record of being the only player to score 23 goals in a single campaign in the NPFL.
