Assistant coach of Heartland FC of Owerri, Ezekiel Onyegbule has declared that his team are still a work in progress despite the kick-off of the 2020/21 NPFL season.
Heartland lost at the newly renovated Dan Ayiam stadium yesterday by 2-1to Nassarawa United.
Speaking to the media including Sports247, the assistant coach said the team started preparing for the season late.
“Our fitness level is not so okay. We started late in preparation, so we have a long way to go to catch up.”
On the second loss of the season, after they lost on matchday 1 to Katsina United, Onyegbule said the team was careless.
“We were careless, we didn’t manage the game well after we leveled. We could have scored the winner in the game too, but corrections will be made from here.”
Heartland FC have been in a financial crisis since last season with players and coaches being owed salaries.
The team have scored three goals this season but yet to pick a point in two games.
