Heartland FC goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa has stressed that the Naze Millionaires are all fired up to deliver the three points that will take them away from the relegation zone when they face FC IfeanyiUbah today in a Match 8 league tie.
The Scientific Boys dropped to 19th on the table after the games played on Wednesday and Ezenwa said he is saddened by the position of the team and could even trade lack of clean sheets for victories that will see them move out of the relegation zone.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper affirmed that he is not too keen about his team’s inability to stop conceding goals in consecutive games if It will translate to winning their matches and are in the top half of the table.
” I’m not under pressure. Football at times can be funny and if you start putting yourself under pressure that you want to have a clean sheet sometimes it may not come,” Ezenwa told Heartland media.
” I believe that it is going to come soon because we have top defenders and I have the firm belief it is going to come. I know we are going to get it right because I know the calibre of players that we have on the team.
“The most important thing is that I am under pressure to lead the team out of the relegation zone we are present. That is my focus and I know that after that every other thing will fall in place naturally.”
The Heartland netminder thanked FC IfeanyiUbah for the role the club played in his career but warned that as a professional player his firm focus today will be to return the Owerri side to winning ways.
He expressed his regrets at Heartland FC’s present position on the league table and charged his teammates that all hands must be on deck to ensure that they step up their performance and give the club the expected results that will take them away from the relegation zone.
“Ifeanyi Ubah is a club I know too well and the club helped me in my career too but this is business and it is about being focused and trying to get the three points,” Ezenwa continued.
“I am certain we are going to beat them. I played for the team before moving to Enyimba and then to Katsina United and from there to Heartland FC. They have done well for me but that belongs to the past. I have to be focused on tomorrow’s (today’s) game and make sure we win the game and then leave the relegation zone.
“It is not good for a club like Heartland to be in the relegation zone for the past few weeks now. We have to leave that zone with a win against them.”
Arrangements have been concluded to ensure the game is beamed live to Nigerians and others on the Nigeria Television Authority network and the increasingly popular App, NPFL.Tv as from 4 pm today.
