Anayo Iwuala has picked staying fit as the major reason for his strong start to the current season.
The pacy winger has played a central role in the recent surge in a form that has seen Enyimba win all of their last four fixtures to climb to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League.
During the period, Anayo has been involved in four goals, scoring two and providing two assists. The forward has also won two penalty kicks for his team.
Those numbers already surpass his total for last season when he managed just a goal, and Anayo insists that staying fit has been the biggest game-changer for him this season.
“There is no big difference in the way I play. This season I am just playing my game, just like I did last season.
“The only difference I can pick is that I was slowed down by injuries last season, that is why my best was not forthcoming. But this season I started the preseason with the team which I didn’t do last season. I started the league with the team which I didn’t do last season. I can say I am on top of my game because of these little things; also because of my current mindset and determination to play.”
Anayo also revealed that getting more involved in goals has been one of his targets this season.
“Every great player that has a future must set targets for himself to achieve. For the past seasons I have been doing the runs and the moves, but this season I resolved to add more creativity and goals to my game because as a forward, your figures really matter. So I am happy that they have been coming gradually, and I hope it continues that way until the end of the season.
