Stanley Eguma’s men continued their 100 percent record so far in the league with a convincing 3-0 win over Kwara United on Sunday in Port Harcourt.
Rivers United who had won their first two games of this season’s NPFL (against Enugu Rangers and against Abia warriors) dispatched Kwara United 3-0 to continue their impressive form in the season.
Stanley Eguma’s side are not only impressive in the league alone, as they have also carried the great form to the continent, dispatching their various opponents in the knockout phases, with Bloemfontein Celtic being their latest casualty to be inflicted with a 2-0 away win.
Avoidance of a 2-0 defeat against the South African Outfits in Port Harcourt will see Stanley Eguma’s Men face Enyimba in the final knockout round of the CAF Confederations Cup for a place in the group stages of the competition.
Stanley Eguma, who is regarded as one of the most experienced Coaches currently in the league, who many refer to as the “Arsene Wenger” of the NPFL will be hoping that his side continues their impressive form both in the League and on the continent.
The Experienced Gaffer who will be hoping to win his first League Title with Rivers United since his appointment in 2017 in an interview with Sports 247 after his team’s 3-0 victory over Kwara United in Port Harcourt, stated that his side will continue to take each game one at a time with seriousness and determination, as they hope that this win will be a morale booster for his side ahead of their 2nd leg tie against Bloemfontein Celtic in the CAF Confederation Cup. He also took some time out to praise and hail the efforts of Godwin Aguda who continued his impressive goalscoring form.
“It was a very good game today (on Sunday), winning by 3 unreplyed goals. We want to take each game one at a time, as this is just the third match in the league so far. We believe that this win will give us confidence ahead of the visit of Bleofeintein Celtic here. I also want to commend Godwin Aguda for his efforts in the team so far. I am not surprised at his performances, because we knew him, right from his days with Enugu Rangers and other clubs he had played for. He is a very important player to us and I hope he continues his amazing goalscoring form, as we execute subsequent matches”, Eguma stated.
The Win against Kwara United meant that Rivers United maintained their top spot in the NPFL with 3 wins from 3 games, 9 points from a possible 9, and scoring 5 goals in just 3 games.
With this impressive form so far, fans and supporters of the Port Harcourt based side have begun to Dream of the title, as well as seeing their team play in the CAF Competition’s Group stages, after a long time.
Winning 3 games in 3 matches played in the league so far, scoring 5 goals and conceding none, all eyes are now set on Rivers United to see if this Cinderella story will continue all true till the end of the season, as Stanley Eguma’s aims to bring major honors to Port Harcourt since his appointment in 2017.
Could this year just be the season of Stanley Eguma and Rivers United as they aim high to bring Laurels and prestige to the people of Rivers state?
