Remo Stars remain top of their Nigerian National League table after defeating Ibom Youth FC 3-0 in their last league game.
Speaking to Sports247, coach of Remo Stars Daniel Ogunmodede expressed delight in being top of the table but also stated that the team is ‘not yet there’ in terms of their target.
“This is a very important victory for us as a team. We started on top of the table and we want to finish on top of the table as well. It’s very important to finish the mid-season at the top of the table which we did by winning against a contending team. The boys knew what was at stake, they were up to the task, approached the game with the right attitude and it yielded a lot of profits for us,” Daniel said.
“The bye-period was a blessing in disguise to us. The players were able to recuperate after a lot of weeks in week out matches, they were able to rest, we fixed some technical issues that we had and added more tactical prowess to our game which yielded many returns for us,” he added.
Akinsamiro who was just recently promoted from the U19 by the coach got Remo Stars ahead in the game and then completed his brace in the first half on his debut. Agbeko Morgan got the side’s third goal from a direct freekick in the second half after he was named the club’s player of the month to seal Remo Stars’ maximum three points in the game.
“In all, I’m impressed with the boys. They’ve done well for themselves, everyone in the team one way or the other have contributed their quota to get us where we are today and we’re so proud of where we are but we also understand that we’re not there yet. We’re keeping our focus because we know it’s not over until it’s over. We have more games to play, about 10-12 games, and the playoffs. It’s a marathon and not a sprint and we’re ready for it and optimistic we’ll come out tops at the end of it,” Daniel said.
