Beyond Limit FC of Ikenne defender, Victory Iboro Sunday has declared that he has no regrets for handling the ball in the box to save his team during their second match of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super-8 in Enugu.
Although his intentional handball earned him a red card in the match versus Ikorodu City of Lagos at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, it helped his side settle for a 1-1 draw, and they went on to top the group.
The result also ensured that Beyond Limit completed their rapid ascent from grassroots football into the Nigerian top-flight league within just three years, and Iboro said he is glad with the role he played in making the surge possible.
Instead of regrets, Iboro stressed that he is happy to replicate what Luiz Suarez did for Uruguay against Ghana in the 2010 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals, since it saved the day for his team.
Victory Iboro declared emphatically: “I don’t have any regret, because that was the only option I had.
“I also believed my goalkeeper would save the penalty. Before we arrived for the tournament, we were practising penalty shootout.
“I used my hand to stop the ball in order to save my team. That was the only option I had at that point.
“It makes me feel good that my team eventually got the promotion ticket.
“People watching the game and those in Ogun State will know that I have done something for them.
“I have done a good thing for them. It makes me feel happy and all of us in the team are happy now.”
Victory Iboro went on to give his general assessment of Beyond Limit’s performance in the campaign and how their promotion to Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) became possible.
He posited, “It was a great season for the whole team, not only me. It was a great season for everybody in this club. This year, we have won four cups.
“Every competition we play, we always want to win everything. I know our name is working for us, because we have no limit. All of us are winners, and we always push to achieve more.”
