In the wake of Ikorodu City FC’s promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), various stakeholders have highlighted key contributors to the club’s success. Seyi George Olofinjana, a former international midfielder turned agent, Coach Bright Ozegbagbe and midfielder Toyeeb Gidado have been particularly praised.
Gidado scored both goals in the decisive 2-0 win against Madiba FC and a crucial goal in a 1-1 draw with Beyond Limits FA.
His performance validated the club’s strategic signings and showcased the potential within the team.
Tobi Samuel Adepoju, a director at Ikorodu City, emphasized the importance of strengthening the coaching department and recruitment strategy.
He commended Olofinjana for providing players from Imperial Football Academy, which contributed significantly to the team’s promotion.
Adepoju reflected on the team’s journey, acknowledging the challenges and pivotal moments. “We knew we had a good squad all through the season,” he stated, expressing confidence in the team’s abilities despite early setbacks in the Super-8.
Coach Bright Ozegbagbei, who took over midway through the season, was pivotal in transforming the team’s fortunes. Adepoju noted, “Bright is a very, very good coach. He’s one of the youngest coaches in this country, but I am proud of him.”
The club’s management also made strategic decisions to improve coaching and expand scouting efforts, which were crucial in assembling a competitive squad.
Adepoju highlighted the importance of these moves, stating, “Improving our coaching department was very key for us; as was expanding our scouting to get quality players.”
Ikorodu City’s promotion is seen as well-deserved, reflecting their consistent performance and strategic planning throughout the season.
