Inter Lagos FC will go all out on Monday to spank their local rivals, Madiba FC, in their second match of the Nigerian National League (NNL) Super-8, according to one of the ambitious team’s players, Tony Obia.
Defeat for Madiba FC in Monday’s game at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu would make them the first team to fall out of contention in this year’s NNL Super-8, but Obia says he and his colleagues are not ready to show mercy for any of their opponents.
Both sides enter the 8am kick-off in The Coal City with contrasting fortunes from their first games on Saturday, as Madiba lost 2-1 to Beyond Limits of Ogun State, while Inter drew 1-1 with another Lagos rival, Ikorodu City FC.
While reflecting on that result, Obia conceded that it was not what Inter Lagos aimed for, hence their determination to bounce back to winning ways against less-fancied Madiba.
He also gave thanks to God and their fans for backing the team’s efforts, which he declared emphatically will translate into victory on Monday, as against their narrow escape this past Saturday.
“It was a nice game,” Obia began in his assessment of their first fixture at The Cathedral. “We really appreciate the fans for their support, and we thank God for the draw.”
He then disclosed that everyone at Inter Lagos has turned attention fully on their next match, which he admitted will determine the club’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals.
“Now, we’ll prepare for the next game ahead. We actually prepared very, very well before coming here. So, we are not afraid of any team.
“We will just concentrate and prepare ahead of our next game on Monday. Victory is ours on Monday. I believe in my team, and we’ll prepare well for the game,” Obia submitted.
The local derby of Inter Lagos and Madiba FC will be followed by a south-west face off between Ikorodu City of Lagos and Beyond Limit of Ikenne, who could be the first side to gain promotion to the top-flight Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) if they get their second win on the bounce.
