NNL SUPER-8: George Aluo Gets Special Mention, As Accolades Roll In For Nigeria National League

The chairman of Nigeria National League (NNL), George Aluo has been singled out for special and specific mention regarding the successful completion of this year’s Super-8 play-off in the second-tier division.

The latest shower of praise for Aluo and his board came from the chairman of Imo State Football Association (ISFA), Barrister Ifeanyichukwu Dike, who also scored the NNL’s executive committee 100% for the flawless organisation of their Super-8 contest in Enugu.

While singling Aluo out for leading by example, Barrister Dike also hailed the four promoted clubs – Beyond Limit of Ikenne, Nasarawa United of Lafia, El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri and Ikorodu City of Lagos – all of which he declared got their tickets by merit.

Dike stated emphatically: “I will say kudos to the organisers of this competition and the NNL board, led by my big brother, George Aluo. He has done marvellously well.

“He has exhibited the prowess, the quality that shows he’s a seasoned and astute football administrator. The organisation was superb, and I will rate it 100%.”

Dike then went on to analyse each of the promoted clubs, based on their pedigree and history, which he posited, made their qualifications expected, and were reflections of their true qualities.

He added, “I must tell anybody that cares to know that the clubs were expected to come tops are the ones who qualified. Two are traditional clubs, and two are new, but they all have their own merits.

“Nasarawa United left NPFL last season. Before now, El-Kanemi went the same way, and Ikorodu City, to the best of my knowledge, was in the NPFL before. So, we are not surprised that they are all coming back.

“At the same time, if you have been following football in Nigeria, you will see that Beyond Limit coming to NPFL is also not a surprise.

“If you follow their records, you will agree with me that these young men are doing wonderfully well in the south-west. From their base in Ikenne, they have been going on foreign tours to Germany, Italy, America, and some other places.

I hail the CEO of Beyond Limit and what they are doing there. So, I am not surprised with the promoted teams.”

The Imo FA Boss concluded with an in-depth overview of the recent NNL Super-8 contest at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu and submitted that it was a competition that was devoid of quarrels and controversy.

“We did not hear of any rancour nor of people being displeased or favoured one against the other in this particular Super-8.

“That shows that merit is the order of the day in the NNL. Those who are supposed to qualify are the real qualifiers, and those that emerged winners in the final are the real champions of the competition,” Dike submitted.
